Historic Arrival: First Gas-Powered Vessel Docks at Dar es Salaam Port
Dar es Salaam – DP World Dar es Salaam welcomed the port’s first gas-powered vessel yesterday, marking a historic milestone for sustainable shipping in Tanzania. The arrival of MV Hoegh Australis V signals a transformative shift toward environmentally-conscious maritime operations.
The vessel, spanning over 200 metres in length, operates on liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology, significantly reducing environmental impact while maximizing operational efficiency. This development underscores DP World Dar es Salaam’s commitment to modernizing port infrastructure and bolstering Tanzania’s expanding trade and logistics industry.
Alice Agustin, representing the Corporate Affairs Department at DP World Dar es Salaam, characterized the event as a "significant milestone" for the facility.
"This is more than just welcoming a vessel. It highlights the port’s dedication to achieving high standards in efficiency, safety, and environmental management, positioning Dar es Salaam as a leading hub in the region," she stated.
Agustin emphasized the critical role of international partnerships, noting that collaboration with advanced vessels like the Hoegh Australis V will strengthen trade flows, particularly in automotive and general cargo sectors.
DP World Dar es Salaam is actively encouraging businesses and stakeholders to utilize the port’s enhanced capabilities.
