Chaumma Presidential Candidate Promises Transformative Infrastructure for Tunduma Border Region
In a dynamic campaign rally at Sogea Ward, Tunduma, Chaumma’s presidential candidate Salum Mwalimu unveiled ambitious plans to revolutionize the border region’s economic landscape. The proposed development strategy centers on constructing a critical flyover from Mpemba to the Zambian border and establishing Tunduma as a strategic city.
Addressing transportation and economic challenges, Mwalimu emphasized the urgent need to eliminate traffic congestion that currently hampers cross-border trade. “A single truck breakdown should not paralyse traffic,” he stated, highlighting the potential for seamless transportation infrastructure.
The proposed flyover aims to resolve significant logistical bottlenecks, with truck queues currently stretching from Mpemba to Laela, impeding goods movement and national revenue collection. Mwalimu criticized previous government approaches, arguing that infrastructure investments should prioritize high-impact economic zones.
Tunduma’s potential as a commercial hub was a key focus, with Mwalimu highlighting its strategic location near the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and neighboring countries. “To transform this area, we must establish Tunduma City to serve regional and international visitors,” he explained.
The candidate positioned Chaumma as a progressive alternative, promising a fresh economic perspective focused on developing tourism, leisure, and business opportunities. Local party candidates reinforced this message, emphasizing commitment to community development and responsive leadership.
With these proposed initiatives, Mwalimu seeks to transform Tunduma from a border town into a dynamic economic center, addressing infrastructure, transportation, and regional connectivity challenges.
