Tanzanian Motorists Set to Benefit from Continued Fuel Price Reductions in August
Tanzanian drivers are poised to experience significant relief this August as fuel prices continue their downward trend for the third consecutive month. The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced new price caps effective August 6, 2025, bringing welcome news to consumers and transport-dependent businesses nationwide.
In Dar es Salaam, the latest retail prices show marked reductions: petrol now costs Sh2,843 per litre, diesel is priced at Sh2,777 per litre, and kerosene is available at Sh2,768 per litre. Similar price drops are observed in other major port cities, with Tanga and Mtwara also seeing more affordable fuel rates.
The price reduction stems from multiple factors, including a 2.3 percent decrease in Free-On-Board (FOB) prices for petrol in the Arab Gulf market. Additionally, the Tanzanian shilling’s 2 percent appreciation against major foreign currencies and a significant drop in port premiums have contributed to the lower prices.
EWURA has emphasized the importance of compliance, reminding fuel retailers to display prices clearly and issue electronic receipts. The regulatory body also cautioned that global oil markets remain unpredictable, with potential future price fluctuations depending on international market conditions.
Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and keep their fuel purchase receipts, which can serve as crucial documentation in case of any pricing discrepancies. The ongoing price adjustments reflect EWURA’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and competitive fuel pricing system that balances consumer interests with market realities.
