Breaking: Zanzibar Tourism Sees Modest Decline in November, Still Aims for 800,000 Annual Visitors
Zanzibar recorded a slight 4 percent decrease in international tourist arrivals in November 2024, with 67,049 visitors compared to 69,860 in October. Despite this minor dip, the destination remains optimistic about its annual tourism goals.
Year-on-year performance remains strong, showing a significant 17 percent increase from November 2023’s 57,296 tourists. European markets continue to dominate, representing 73 percent of total arrivals, with Italy leading at 11.2 percent and France following at 9.4 percent.

– Most visitors (88.4 percent) arrived via airport
– 99.3 percent of travelers came for leisure purposes
– Visitor demographics showed nearly equal gender split
– Working-age travelers (15-64 years) comprised 88.3 percent of tourists
Emerging markets like Poland, India, and Russia demonstrated growth, increasing visitor numbers by 5.2 percent compared to last year. However, some markets experienced declines, with American visitors dropping by 27.4 percent.
South Africa leads African tourism to the island, contributing 3,059 visitors, followed by Kenya and Egypt.
Despite monthly fluctuations, Zanzibar’s tourism sector remains robust, attracting a diverse international audience and maintaining its reputation as a premier holiday destination.
