In a recent campaign rally in Mtama, Lindi Region, government leaders highlighted President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s significant strides in political freedoms, national unity, and economic empowerment.
The parliamentary candidate for Mtama constituency emphasized the President’s compassionate approach to governance, noting substantial improvements in political participation and job creation. Since assuming office, President Hassan has facilitated the recruitment of over 155,000 public servants and indirectly supported the creation of 8 million private sector jobs.
A key highlight of her leadership has been the restoration of political space, allowing opposition parties to hold public meetings freely. Political exiles who previously fled the country have now returned, with many previously pending legal cases being dropped.
During the rally, President Hassan outlined strategic plans for agricultural transformation in the region. She urged farmers to transition from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture, particularly focusing on pigeon peas as a potential income driver. The government will continue providing subsidized fertilizers, pesticides, and affordable farming equipment to support this transition.
Infrastructure development remains a priority, with plans to construct a railway line connecting Mtwara Port through Lindi and Ruvuma regions to Mbamba Bay Port. This project aims to open new trade and investment opportunities in the southern corridor.
The President also committed to improving rural healthcare infrastructure, ensuring quality medical services reach remote communities. These comprehensive initiatives demonstrate a holistic approach to national development, focusing on economic empowerment, political inclusivity, and social welfare.
