Tragic Road Accidents Claim Nine Lives in Tanzania, President Offers Condolences
In a devastating series of road accidents, nine people have lost their lives in the Coast and Mwanza regions, prompting President Samia Suluhu Hassan to express deep sorrow and extend condolences to the bereaved families.
Bagamoyo District Collision Claims Entire Family
A tragic head-on collision in Bagamoyo District resulted in the death of five family members, including two employees and three children. The family was returning from a burial in Tanga when the fatal accident occurred on September 14, 2025, at Msata. Only one family member, the wife, survived and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Among the deceased were an ICT officer, an accountant, two daughters, a young son, and a nephew. The family was en route to Dar es Salaam when the devastating crash happened. The victims were memorialized at an emotional funeral service in Kijitonyama, with burial plans set for September 17, 2025.
Mwanza Accident Claims Four Nuns and a Driver
In a separate incident in Mwanza Region, four nuns and their driver perished in a head-on collision with a lorry. The accident occurred on September 15, 2025, in Bukumbi Village, Misungwi District.
The victims included the congregation’s Superior General, her assistant, a school head, and another sister, along with their driver. They were traveling to Mwanza Airport after attending a religious ceremony in Kahama. Only one supervisor survived the crash and is currently hospitalized.
Regional Police Commander reported the accident was caused by overspeeding and reckless overtaking. The lorry driver has been taken into custody for further investigation.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed profound sadness over these tragic losses, offering prayers for the deceased and wishing quick recovery for the survivors. She extended condolences to the affected communities and called for increased road safety measures.
