Vodacom Tanzania Celebrates 25 Years of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Excellence
Dar es Salaam – Vodacom Tanzania has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing digital transformation, telecommunications services, and financial inclusion as the telecommunications giant commemorates 25 years of operations in the country.
During the launch of its festive-season campaign in Dar es Salaam, Vodacom Tanzania’s Managing Director, Philip Besiimire, highlighted the company’s quarter-century journey of supporting digital and economic growth for Tanzanians.
"We have served Tanzanians for 25 consecutive years. We may have changed our colors, but our mission and values remain the same—empowering Tanzanians both digitally and economically. Communication is the foundation of development, and we have always been at the forefront of driving it," Besiimire stated.
Major Network Investments and Environmental Initiatives
The telecommunications provider continues to invest heavily in modernizing its network infrastructure to ensure customers receive fast internet speeds and reliable services. Recent upgrades to the M-Pesa system have enhanced product innovation while strengthening customer data security.
In a significant environmental achievement, Vodacom has reduced its energy consumption by 30 percent by connecting its towers to the national electricity grid. This strategic move has decreased diesel reliance and minimized the company’s environmental footprint.
"We are investing in education, health, ICT, and the environment. But above all, we continue to ensure that our service and payment systems remain secure for customers’ money and information," Besiimire emphasized.
Extensive Network Coverage Across Tanzania
Vodacom’s Director for Commercial Business and Marketing, Brigita Shirima, attributed the company’s extensive growth to the trust earned from Tanzanian customers.
"We value customer feedback, which is why our network now covers up to 95 percent of Tanzania. From offering voice services alone, we now provide financial solutions, business support for both large and small enterprises, and digital services that simplify daily life," Shirima explained.
The festive-season campaign includes a comprehensive "basket of appreciation" featuring various offers designed to welcome customers and provide opportunities for feedback on service improvements.
Festive Season Promotions and Special Offers
M-Pesa Tanzania Director, Epimack Mbeteni, announced extensive promotions throughout the festive season as part of the company’s customer appreciation initiative.
Key promotions include:
- Two liters of free fuel every weekend for customers using M-Pesa at over 100 fuel stations nationwide
- 10 percent discount on all M-Pesa purchases at major supermarkets and restaurants

Additionally, Vodacom’s Director for Enterprise Business, Nguvu Kamando, revealed special promotions for the company’s vehicle-tracking service, offering customers a 20 percent discount on connection fees along with two months of complimentary service.
