Arusha Region Declared Safe as Normal Operations Resume Following Recent Unrest
Arusha – Arusha Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla has confirmed that the region is calm and secure, with all essential services fully operational for residents, visitors, and tourists.
During a briefing on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, following a Regional Security and Safety Committee meeting, Makalla reported that special teams are conducting inspections across areas impacted by disturbances that began on October 29.
"Arusha residents are conducting their daily activities normally, and the region remains calm and secure. The regional administration began reopening shops on November 1, and today all operations have returned to normal," Makalla stated.
He emphasized that Arusha, serving as both a major commercial center and popular tourist destination, will maintain high safety standards for all visitors while ensuring uninterrupted access to basic services. Security agencies continue performing their essential functions, including border protection.
Transport Services Operating Normally
The Regional Commissioner confirmed that transport operators can resume services safely following the restoration of security. Fuel stations throughout the region have reopened, guaranteeing continuous supply to motorists.
"All fuel stations are operational. We have instructed suppliers and traders to deliver fuel in substantial quantities to ensure constant availability," Makalla announced.
Bus operators from neighboring regions received assurances that roads are safe for travel. "Any police presence you observe is solely for your protection," he explained.
Local government officials and village leaders have been directed to maintain public order and report any disturbances in coordination with security agencies.
Sanitation Efforts Underway
Addressing environmental concerns, Makalla ordered council directors, under Regional Administrative Secretary oversight, to implement effective sanitation management. All waste in residential and market areas must be removed within two days.
"Our town must maintain cleanliness. City and council directors have been instructed to engage sanitation companies to clear all areas within two days. Waste accumulation poses serious health risks," he said.
Regarding damage from the recent unrest, Makalla confirmed that comprehensive assessments are in progress. "Identifying all affected areas takes time, but our teams are conducting thorough surveys. Restoring peace remains our primary objective, with resident safety as the top priority," he stated.
The Regional Commissioner noted that information regarding arrests connected to the disturbances will be provided by the Arusha Regional Police Commander.
