Zanzibar Presidential Candidate Promises Revolutionary Economic Transformation and Direct Citizen Support
In a groundbreaking campaign pledge, the presidential candidate for Zanzibar has unveiled an ambitious economic plan that promises to revolutionize the region’s financial landscape by providing direct monthly payments to every citizen.
The proposed strategy includes allocating Sh500,000 monthly to each Zanzibari resident, funded through strategic cost-cutting and revenue optimization. Key to this plan is a dramatic reduction in government expenditure, particularly targeting excessive presidential convoy expenses.
With a targeted monthly government revenue of Sh1.7 trillion, the candidate outlined a comprehensive approach to redistribute national resources directly to citizens. The proposed budget would cover Sh1 trillion in monthly citizen payments, leaving Sh700 billion for critical development projects.
Nine critical sectors have been identified for comprehensive development: tourism, fisheries, organic agriculture, education, economic infrastructure, small and medium industries, investment attraction, governance improvement, and digital system expansion.
Notably, the plan includes stringent anti-corruption measures, proposing that public fund embezzlement be treated as treason, with perpetrators facing up to 15 years imprisonment and permanent disqualification from public office.
The tourism strategy focuses on diversifying beyond traditional beach tourism, exploring cultural, ecological, and historical tourism markets across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Similarly, fisheries and education sectors are set for significant modernization and skill development.
Key economic promises include reducing bureaucracy, enhancing transparency, providing affordable loans to local investors, and implementing digital monitoring systems for public services.
With confidence in the campaign’s people-centered approach, the candidate believes these transformative policies will resonate strongly with Zanzibari voters, positioning the party as a frontrunner in the upcoming election.
