Tanzania Police Refutes Allegations of Hidden Motives in Ongoing Investigation
Tanzania’s Police Force has firmly rejected concerns raised by former Ambassador Humphrey Polepole regarding the recent criminal investigation summons, emphasizing the transparency of the investigative process.
In a decisive statement, Police Spokesperson addressed the allegations, challenging the suggestion of any hidden agenda behind the official summons. “Does it make sense for an institution with genuine intentions to make a public announcement?” the spokesperson stated, highlighting the openness of their communication.
Polepole, a former parliamentarian and ambassador to Cuba, had previously welcomed the investigation into his online allegations while simultaneously expressing reservations about potential ulterior motives. He argued that in an increasingly digital era, information could be accessed electronically.
The Police Force countered this perspective by questioning the legal framework for digital evidence gathering. The spokesperson challenged Polepole, noting his parliamentary background, to clarify when laws were amended to permit online information collection during criminal investigations.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has officially summoned Polepole to appear in person and provide substantive evidence supporting his initial claims, underscoring the traditional and legally established method of gathering investigative information.
This development continues to draw significant attention to the ongoing investigation and the evolving landscape of legal proceedings in Tanzania.
