Former Tanzanian Diplomat Summoned for Investigation Amid Controversial Allegations
Dar es Salaam – A former Tanzanian Ambassador to Cuba, Humphrey Polepole, has been called to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following online statements that authorities claim may constitute a potential criminal offense.
Polepole, who previously served as Secretary for Ideology, Propaganda, and Training of the ruling party, resigned from his ambassadorship on July 13, 2025, citing concerns about leadership and constitutional principles.
The DCI initiated an investigation on September 15, 2025, requesting Polepole’s physical appearance to provide evidence supporting his allegations. Police spokesperson emphasized that the summons was issued publicly and seeks to substantiate claims through proper legal channels.
The former diplomat expressed mixed feelings about the summons, describing it as both encouraging and suspicious. He raised concerns about potential ill intentions, claiming that armed individuals had previously harassed his family and raided his residence.
On August 5, 2025, President Samia Suluhu Hassan officially revoked Polepole’s diplomatic appointment and diplomatic status, utilizing constitutional powers.
Polepole continues to maintain that his statements are based on observations of governmental practices and has called for transparent investigation methods.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities seeking direct engagement to clarify the nature of the allegations and gather comprehensive evidence.
