Local Innovator Transforms Palm Oil Waste into Clean Energy Solution in Kigoma

In the heart of Matiazo village, a remarkable entrepreneur is revolutionizing clean energy production through innovative waste management techniques. Hassan Kilanoza has developed groundbreaking machines that convert palm oil residues into alternative charcoal and biogas, offering a sustainable solution to environmental challenges.

With over two decades of mechanical expertise, Kilanoza transitioned from welding and automotive repair to palm oil production, ultimately creating the Kilanoza Palm Oil Company Investment Limited. His journey began by addressing the significant waste generated in palm oil operations, transforming what was once discarded into valuable energy resources.

The innovative entrepreneur has designed specialized machines that produce alternative charcoal, which burns for more than 12 hours and provides a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wood charcoal. His product offers significant advantages, with experts noting that one ton of his charcoal performs equivalently to 12 tons of traditional wood charcoal.

Currently, Kilanoza’s machines can potentially produce up to 30 tons of charcoal daily, though financial and infrastructure limitations restrict current production to approximately one ton. Local businesses have already embraced his product, with vendors praising its affordability and long-burning properties.

Despite his success, Kilanoza faces challenges including limited production space, storage facilities, and transportation infrastructure. He remains optimistic, highlighting the potential for expansion with adequate financial support and government investment in clean energy initiatives.

The Kigoma regional government has set an ambitious goal of transitioning 80 percent of households to clean energy by 2034, positioning Kilanoza’s innovative approach as a crucial step towards sustainable development.

Through creative problem-solving and determination, this local innovator demonstrates how waste can be transformed into valuable resources, offering hope for more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions in rural communities.
