Tanzania Leaps Forward: Governance Effectiveness Soars to New Heights in 2025
Tanzania has achieved a remarkable milestone in government performance, climbing to 78th position globally in government effectiveness for 2025. This significant jump represents the most impressive improvement across the African continent, marking a transformative period of strategic leadership and innovative reforms.
The country’s ascent reflects a comprehensive approach to national development, characterized by strategic digital transformation and robust policy frameworks. A key driver of this progress has been the government’s substantial investment in e-governance initiatives, designed to enhance public service efficiency and transparency.
Critical legislative moves, such as the Data Protection Act, have further bolstered institutional credibility and created a more secure environment for businesses and citizens alike. The government has simultaneously expanded international partnerships and pursued predictable policy approaches, resulting in a notable surge in foreign direct investment.
Financial indicators highlight the impact of these efforts. Foreign and domestic investment escalated by 21.6 percent, reaching $6.56 billion in the fiscal year ending June 2024. The government’s effectiveness score of 78 percent demonstrates strength across multiple domains, including institutional robustness, global reputation, and policy framework.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership has been instrumental in driving these transformations. Her governance philosophy, centered on the “4Rs” – Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms, and Rebuilding – has fostered political stability and opened new avenues for inclusive development.
Strategic planning continues with the upcoming National Vision 2050, set to be finalized by June 2026. The government remains committed to continuous performance monitoring and progressive policy implementation.
These developments position Tanzania as an increasingly attractive investment destination, signaling a promising trajectory of economic growth and governmental excellence in the regional and global landscape.
