President Announces Breakthrough in Agricultural Sector Transformation

In a significant development for Njombe’s agricultural landscape, the government has successfully initiated a comprehensive recovery plan for the local tea industry. The presidential intervention has triggered immediate financial relief for farmers and workers in the Lupembe ward.

Key highlights of the announced initiative include:

Debt Repayment and Industry Revitalization
Local tea industry investors have commenced repaying long-standing debts to registered smallholder farmers and workers, marking a critical turning point for the region’s agricultural sector.

Comprehensive Agricultural Support Strategy
The government has outlined an ambitious plan encompassing:
– Modern machinery investments for tea factories
– Subsidies for agricultural production
– Free distribution of quality seeds and avocado seedlings
– Pesticide support for farmers

Infrastructure Development Achievements
Significant infrastructure progress has been realized, with road networks expanding from 270 km in 2020 to 468 km, enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities in the region.

Strategic Agricultural Storage Solutions
A pioneering project to construct 50 avocado storage facilities will enable farmers to store produce for up to three months, allowing strategic market positioning and improved income potential.
