15 Arrested for Using Unregistered Vehicle License Plates in Dar es Salaam Crackdown
Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have taken decisive action against individuals using unauthorized vehicle registration numbers. Fifteen suspects were arrested for operating vehicles with license plate SSH 2530, which are not recognized in the official vehicle registration system.
Zone Commander addressed the legal implications, emphasizing that using these unregistered plates is a criminal offense under Section 13(1) of the Road Traffic Act. Offenders will face prosecution for driving vehicles without valid registration.
The operation is part of a broader police initiative to combat crime networks in the city. In recent weeks, law enforcement has successfully disrupted multiple criminal activities:
• A truck driver was detained while transporting 13 bags of cannabis hidden among maize and rice sacks
• Two motorcycle theft syndicate members were arrested, with six motorcycles and several dismantled engines recovered
• Three suspects were apprehended for daytime home burglaries, with stolen electronic devices seized
As part of ongoing crime prevention efforts, police have urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly during upcoming celebrations. Residents are advised to ensure home security by leaving someone to watch their property during festive events.
The comprehensive law enforcement operation demonstrates a committed approach to maintaining public safety and disrupting criminal networks in Dar es Salaam.
