Vodacom Tanzania has launched a comprehensive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework, demonstrating remarkable progress in digital empowerment, financial inclusion, and environmental responsibility.
The company’s strategic approach focuses on three core priorities: empowering people, protecting the planet, and maintaining trust. Key highlights include significant strides in digital skills training, with 699 girls trained through the Code Like a Girl initiative, bringing total beneficiaries to 3,039.
Financial inclusion remains a critical focus, with Sh1.5 trillion disbursed in digital loans by March 2025, expanding credit access for small traders and households. The company’s digital platforms continue to revolutionize financial services, with the mobile money platform maintaining its leading position.
Environmental commitments are equally impressive. Vodacom invested Sh1.5 billion in energy efficiency projects, achieving substantial energy savings of 1,000 MWh. Community reforestation efforts have planted 18,000 trees, contributing to environmental conservation.
Workplace responsibility is paramount, with all employees completing comprehensive training on ethical business practices. The company has been recognized as a top employer and received multiple awards for its sustainable business approach.
Leadership emphasizes that these efforts extend beyond mere compliance, focusing on driving inclusive growth and supporting Tanzania’s Vision 2050. The ESG framework represents a holistic approach to technology’s role in social and environmental transformation.
With a commitment to connecting 22.6 million local customers and contributing to broader digital inclusion, Vodacom Tanzania continues to set new standards in responsible business practices and sustainable development.
