Zanzibar Shatters Tourism Records: 98,370 International Visitors in July Milestone
Zanzibar has achieved an unprecedented tourism milestone, recording 98,370 international visitors in July — a remarkable 44.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. This landmark achievement signals a robust recovery and expanding global appeal for the island destination.
European travelers continue to dominate, representing 64.4 percent of total arrivals. Italy emerged as the leading source market, contributing 10,403 visitors and demonstrating an extraordinary 291 percent surge from the previous month.
The tourism profile revealed compelling insights: 99.4 percent of arrivals were leisure travelers, with 91 percent entering through the airport. Male travelers comprised 54 percent of visitors, while females accounted for 46 percent. The majority (86 percent) were between 15-64 years old.
Notably, emerging markets including Poland, India, Russia, Israel, China, and Ukraine collectively showed a significant 42.2 percent increase in arrivals, highlighting a promising trend of market diversification.
Accommodation sectors also performed impressively, with bed occupancy reaching 81.1 percent. Nearly one-third of tourists stayed approximately one week, with the average stay slightly exceeding seven days.
These statistics underscore Zanzibar’s growing prominence as a premier global tourism destination, combining rich cultural experiences with exceptional hospitality.
