Major Political Shakeup: Seven Prominent Figures Dropped from CCM Nomination List
In a significant political development, seven key political figures, including two cabinet ministers, have been unexpectedly excluded from the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) nomination list for the upcoming party primaries scheduled on August 4, 2025.
Notable casualties include Shaib Hassan Kaduara, Minister of Water, Energy and Minerals, and Masoud Ali Mohamed, Minister in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Special Departments. Both ministers have been removed from their respective constituency representation lists.
The nomination changes extend beyond ministerial ranks, impacting several constituency representatives. In Tumbatu, outgoing representative Haji Omar Kheri has been replaced, with new candidates Mohamoud Omar Hamad and Mtumweni Ali Saleh emerging. Similarly, in Kiwani, incumbent Mussa Foum Mussa has been superseded by Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, the current Second Vice President of Zanzibar.
Political analysts suggest these exclusions reflect a comprehensive evaluation of individual performance, party discipline, and potential internal political dynamics. The removals indicate a strategic approach to maintaining party integrity and ensuring high-quality representation.
The upcoming primaries will follow a structured timeline, with special seat primaries on July 30, 2025, and House of Representatives and parliamentary primaries on August 4. Successful candidates will represent CCM in the October 29 general election.
This significant reshuffling underscores the party’s commitment to selecting candidates based on merit, performance, and alignment with organizational goals.
