Tanzania Establishes Africa’s Premier Fertiliser Manufacturing Hub in Dodoma

Tanzania is set to revolutionize agricultural productivity with the launch of a state-of-the-art fertiliser manufacturing plant in Dodoma, positioning itself as a key player in Africa’s agricultural transformation.

The groundbreaking facility, representing a $180 million investment, boasts an impressive annual production capacity of one million tonnes, with plans to triple output in future expansion phases. This strategic industrial project is poised to significantly impact regional agricultural development and food security.

The manufacturing plant specializes in producing environmentally friendly organo-mineral fertilisers uniquely tailored to address nutrient deficiencies in African soils. These innovative products are designed to enhance crop yields, improve water retention, and rehabilitate degraded agricultural lands.

Strategic advantages include the plant’s location in Dodoma, which offers exceptional connectivity through modern infrastructure like the Standard Gauge Railway and upcoming Msalato International Airport. This positioning enables efficient regional distribution and trade.

The facility is already attracting significant regional interest, with multiple countries exploring import opportunities. By 2030, projections indicate that 80 percent of Tanzania’s fertiliser needs will be met through local production, dramatically reducing dependency on international imports.

Beyond agricultural benefits, the project promises substantial economic impact, currently employing 1,805 people directly and projected to create over 5,000 indirect jobs. The plant also provides a new income stream for local communities by purchasing approximately 100,000 tonnes of livestock manure.

Government officials emphasize the project’s potential to transform Tanzania’s agricultural landscape, supporting national goals of improving food security, promoting sustainable farming practices, and stimulating economic growth through strategic industrial development.
