Tanzanian Fuel Prices Surge: Consumers Brace for Higher Costs
Motorists and consumers across Tanzania will face increased fuel expenses as prices rise for the second consecutive month in March 2025. The national regulatory authority has announced significant price hikes across multiple regions, signaling potential economic challenges ahead.
In Dar es Salaam, fuel prices have escalated dramatically:
– Petrol: Up 6.27% to Sh2,996 per litre
– Diesel: Increased 6.73% to Sh2,885 per litre
– Kerosene: Shocking 12.02% jump to Sh3,036 per litre
Similar price increases are observed in other key regions:
– Tanga: Petrol at Sh3,042, diesel at Sh2,932, kerosene at Sh3,082
– Mtwara: Petrol reaching Sh3,069, diesel at Sh2,958, kerosene at Sh3,108
Interestingly, while fuel import costs have generally decreased for petrol and kerosene, diesel import expenses through Dar es Salaam Port surged by 24.42%.
Consumers are advised to compare prices at different fuel stations and demand electronic receipts. The price increases are expected to impact transportation costs, living expenses, and broader economic activities nationwide.
Regulatory authorities emphasize that fuel stations must display prices transparently and remain within prescribed pricing limits, warning of potential penalties for non-compliance.
As fuel prices continue to climb, Tanzanians are urged to prepare for potential economic adjustments in the coming months.
