Zanzibar Revenue Authority Smashes Half-Year Collection Target, Signals Economic Growth
Zanzibar’s Revenue Authority has celebrated a significant financial milestone, surpassing its first-half revenue collection target by an impressive 102 percent. From July to December 2024, the authority collected Sh429.033 billion, exceeding the projected Sh419.203 billion.
The remarkable performance stems from strategic investments in infrastructure and enhanced economic activities across the region. In the second quarter alone, ZRA collected Sh228.098 billion, representing a 20.09 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
December’s revenue collection particularly stood out, with Sh75.582 billion collected—slightly above the projected Sh75.501 billion. This represents a substantial 19 percent growth from the previous year’s December collections.
Key strategic initiatives driving this success include improved stakeholder cooperation, advanced revenue collection systems, and a more business-friendly approach. The authority plans to further strengthen revenue collection by establishing dedicated taxpayer service camps and creating supportive environments for businesses.
Local business owners have noted a significant shift in the revenue authority’s engagement style, highlighting more collaborative and approachable interactions that encourage voluntary tax compliance.
These results signal strong economic momentum for Zanzibar, positioning the region for continued financial growth and development in the upcoming fiscal periods.
