Zanzibar Airports Authority Debunks Flight Suspension Rumors: Tourism Remains Strong
Dar es Salaam – The Zanzibar Airports Authority (ZAA) has decisively addressed speculation surrounding temporary flight route adjustments, emphasizing that recent service modifications are routine seasonal changes, not related to any new travel fees.
ZAA Director General confirmed that international airlines will implement planned seasonal service adjustments in 2025, maintaining the destination’s robust tourism infrastructure. Specific route modifications include:
• Air France will temporarily suspend Paris-Zanzibar routes from March 22 to May 25, 2025, during the traditional “green season” – a period characterized by lower tourist volumes.
• KLM will pause Amsterdam-Zanzibar services during the summer IATA season (March-October 2025), with full operations resuming in the winter season.
Industry experts suggest these adjustments reflect standard aviation practices rather than significant market disruptions. The authority stressed the importance of relying on official communications to prevent misinformation.
Tourism stakeholders remain cautiously optimistic, recognizing that seasonal flight modifications are common in the travel industry. While direct route suspensions might temporarily impact visitor accessibility, Zanzibar continues to be an attractive destination for international travelers.
Both airlines have reassured travelers that their services will return to full operational status – Air France in May 2025 and KLM in October 2025. Travelers are advised to verify current flight schedules and plan their trips accordingly.
The ZAA remains committed to supporting the tourism sector and maintaining transparent communication with travelers and industry partners.
